Britain's top hiring sectors for 2011

Despite public sector job cuts, there has been a reported rise in hiring intentions amongst employers. As per every new year, the amount of job seekers has increased on Decembers figures

According to a report from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG, permanent placements as well as temp placements are on the rise. However, with this increase is the inevitable appearence of skills shortages in the industy.

Changes to immigration policies could only increase this skills shortages in the future, so piplines need to be established into those sectors that are experiencing growth. The report also states which industries are already in short skills supply these include IT, Engineering and Social Care - which are all sectors that Eximius Group is able to work with.

IT specialists
Many IT departments plan to increase staff numbers in 2011. Demand for new staff will be fuelled by growing IT areas such as project management, database administration and design, business intelligence, PC and technical support, cloud and software-as-a-service systems, network administration, virtualisation and security. However, it is possible that qualified staff will be hard to find. The IT sector is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 5.1% to 2015 and will drive employment growth, creating an additional 93,000 jobs by 2015, according to the latest Business Services Prospects report by economics consultancy the Centre for Economics and Business Research.

Engineers
According to a report by the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF), manufacturing in the UK is growing at its fastest pace since 1994. This growth will also lead to an increasing number of engineering jobs. Engineering is also a sector where employee skills shortages are being seen at the moment. According to Roger Tweedy, the REC's director of research, confidence is slowly increasing among private sector companies, but he warned that the government needs to focus on developing the skills needed within the UK.

Healthcare professionals
With the cap on immigration recently announced by the government, the UK healthcare sector is facing a severe skills shortage. The UK is in dire need of many highly skilled professionals such as specialist nurses and midwives, radiographers, physiotherapists, qualified social workers and doctors of all grades and specialties.

Chefs
The new immigration ruling is also causing skills shortages in the UK restaurant sector. According to BigHospitality, especially the UK's 13,000 ethnic restaurants are suffering because they rely heavily on chefs from outside Europe. "At a time when UK hospitality is faced with a unique line up of events, like the 2012 Olympics, we need to make sure that the necessary talent is available to secure growth for the industry", said Suzanne Letting, Chair of REC Hospitality, to BigHospitality.

HGV drivers
With the economic recovery the demand of qualified drivers is growing in the UK, but they are hard to find. According to Click Liverpool, the number of qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers has reached an all time low in Liverpool. Across the UK, the shortage of drivers is believed to have hit the 100,000 mark in the last 12 months. The Abeceder reports about new figures that have revealed 60 per cent of all road haulage companies are struggling to fill vacancies, while the top 100 biggest companies are suffering even more with 72 per cent having a severe shortage of drivers.

Sales Professionals
According to a survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), almost a third of UK companies are planning to hire more staff over the coming 12 months. This includes sales jobs in a number of sectors, as reported by BMS. The Sales Director also quotes recent data published by Orange, which indicate that 26 per cent of small to medium-sized firms, including those in the sales recruitment sector, will increase their staff in the next 12 months.

Eximius Group has expanded its UK coverage with the opening of their first regional office of 2011 in Manchester.

The new office will initially specialise in the Education, Health and Social Care markets; with other areas of the business to follow throughout the year.

Paul Jones joins Eximius Group from Hays to lead the Manchester branch with 10 years of experience recruiting in the public sector – specifically in the North West. Eximius Group Launches in the Middle East

Eximius Group the leading recruitment specialist, is now operating from its first Middle Eastern office in Dubai.

The Dubai office will be led by Office Manager Jaimie Cork and will initially encompass areas covered by the Eximius Technical brand. The Middle Eastern office will initially focus on the Oil & Gas, Construction and Aerospace industries, with plans to move into other sectors in the first quarter of 2011.

Eximius Group’s expansion to Dubai will facilitate existing client bases and build relationships with new clients who were unobtainable from the UK base.

Director of Eximius Technical Bradley Lewington, comments; “this show of commitment to our clients in the Middle East will strengthen our existing client relationships, as well as providing an international offering to our clients back in the UK.”

The decision to take the Eximius Technical brand to Dubai will also pave the way for establishing the international expansion of other brands.

Eximius Group goes from Strength to Strength

Multi sector recruiter Eximius Group has seen a 123% growth in half yearly net fee income (NFI) when compared to 2009 results. Despite the economic crisis, NFI more than doubled in Eximius’s first two years of trading from £0.6m (Jan – Dec 2008) to £1.8m (Jan – Dec 2009). This strong first half of 2009, with an NFI of £0.7m, provided a solid foundation on which Eximius achieved year end figures of £1.1m, enabling the company to plan for a sustainable future.

“Eximius is driven by the fast but steady progression reflected in the figures this year,” comments Nick Stevens - Group CEO, “even in recent months and as 2010 comes to a close, our brands have maintained a steady profit line enabling us to continue to focus on developing business in new areas.”
Eximius Group was established in 2008 and initially specialised in the Financial Services markets. Soon after its incorporation, the business developed into the IT and Technical fields and in the last two years has expanded its portfolio to a total of eight business areas spanning the private and public sectors.

Building on its strong presence in the Financial Services sector, Eximius extended its portfolio of services to include Eximius Law, Eximius Operations and Eximius Front Office. Growth in these areas ensured steady figures, resulting in the revenue of the first half of 2009 exceeding the total profits of the Group’s first year of business.

2010 business objectives involved a significant investment in staff, development of new business areas and international expansion into Asia and the Middle East. These were important factors in the delivery of half yearly results of £2.5m NFI, which are predicted to end the year on £6m.
Following this rapid growth, for the next two years Eximius sees group headcount doubling by the end of 2011 and NFI reaching £11m, with a similar pattern for the end of 2012 with NFI finishing on £20m with a staff base of 500. Stevens continues;

“These are ambitious figures – but by no means unobtainable as the opportunities within the recruitment industry continue to develop as they are. With our expansion into the international markets, we will be able to provide the local service expected by our clients - on a global scale. This in turn will command higher profits, wider coverage and more opportunities for the future.”

Eximius Group launches its first work experience programme


This August, Eximius Group held their first work experience programme from its London office. The programme was developed as part of an extended invitation resulting from Eximius Group’s participation in HSBC’s Global Community Partnership Day earlier this year.

10 work experience placements were offered to Holy Cross Catholic Girl’s School who participated in the Community Partnership Day and a further 8 were offered to a local school – Hurlingham and Chelsea. Each student attended a week’s work experience within Eximius Group and worked within each of sector of the company. The experience enabled them to gain exposure to working in an office situation as well as developing key business skills such as; communicating within a professional environment via email and the telephone, writing skills, database skills, research skills and creative skills.

The students were given daily timetables outlining which area of the company they would be working with and what tasks they would be given. They also had a CV writing and interview workshop, took part in candidate meetings and were given project work to complete. The students were paid expenses (travel and lunch) to attend for the week.

The work experience programme ensured that the students grasped valuable office related skills as well as providing them with essential career advice for the future. Nick Stevens Group CEO commented that the work placement week was a learning experience for everyone;

“the work experience students brought a dynamic contribution to the Eximius office. The input, standard of work and the dedication of the participants was very impressive. We thank HSBC for giving us the opportunity to work with such talented young people and I have absolute faith that every one of them will go on to have outstanding careers. We wish them all the best for the future.”
